Why so much anger in this election cycle?

For the first time in a long time we finally have 2 candidates chosen by the people not the party. The Democratic money machine was behind Hillary Clinton, the Republican money machine was behind Mitt Romney. It seems that having come this far, finally breaking the stranglehold of who we get to choose from, we could let some of the rhetoric go to the side and actually talk about issues. Am I the only one who thinks we, the people, have already won this election no matter the outcome?
