How you would compare the modern day structure of Government today with the "heir archy" of Monarchy?

The main change is elected officials. In democracy, power is meant to be in the hands of the people. With monarchy, power is placed in a family of royals and bound by royal blood. It was so important to them that they stay pure that they even went so far as to have siblings marry each other, of course this caused genetic problems.
