My ex boyfriend keeps making people up...why?

He's having trouble dealing with not being with you. Just ignore him and continue to tell anyone who contacts you that you aren't interest in him anymore. He's probably just trying to catch you saying you still want him. Don't let up and eventually he should give up. If not call the cops on him.
