If global warming is real, why is director of the embattled Climatic Research Unit (CRU) in the United Kingdom?

It was inevitable and good riddance. The man and his cronies have perhaps irreversibly destroyed the reputation of the CRU which has long been considered the climatology equivalent to our NASA.
